STOP Blaming Employees.
CONSIDER HOW YOU MANAGE THEM! I was reading in the newspaper about a State House Leader saying "we need to get people to work harder to change." I can imagine that seems like something frustrated leaders could say - I've heard Business Owners say the same thing about employees. As if it were only "the people." Think about this from a different perspective. There is most likely a "process or system" somewhere in the organization that has to change first. When we fail to achieve the desired results, it's easy to blame others. However, it just may be the process or system doesn't allow people to succeed and working them harder only contributes to their frustrations. If you hire good people let them change the processes to improve the work, communication, planning and results. Supporting and reinforcing these concepts are essential to improving results. I know it may seem normal and easier to blame others versus changing the system. But with the limited number of talented folks on the market - well there are only so many people to blame before someone higher blames you. These are my thoughts, you may have your own, if so give me your thoughts. A great book to read: On a recent plane ride to and from Phoenix, I had the pleasure of reading an very interesting book - Inspiration at Work, by Robert A. Ruotolo, D.S.W. It's about his struggle through his career and his life learning experiences he encountered along the way. There was one particular section that got my attention and I've shared that story with my own clients as they deal with different types of people. My Partner and I so enjoyed the book we ordered additional copies to give to our clients. Learn about our Assessment Tools on the Home Page.
